About Us

The Madden Women's Association (MWA) was founded in 1983 as a minority women's golf club to provide an avenue for African American women to learn and to play the game of golf. In 1998 the Association moved to a higher purpose -- using the game of golf as a way to fund a scholarship program for African American females pursuing a college education. Through 2010 MWA has awarded more than $32,000 in scholarship support to 37 aspiring college graduates. While still predominately African American, over time the MWA membership has grown to in embrace women from all ethnic backgrounds. MWA is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization. Madden golf course, a city of Dayton, Ohio owned course, is the home course for MWA.

Proceeds from this activity and generous corporate and private donations enable MWA to provide financial support to females who are graduating high school seniors or who are currently attending a college or university. Scholarship award applications are accepted year around. Scholarship awards are presented to awardees as part of the closing ceremonies of the annual MWA Golf Tournament.
